Carissa M. Karanth, MA, LPC, NCC, CAADC


Carissa Karanth has been employed by Milford Counseling for more than six years and has combined her school knowledge with real world experience to encompass a broad range of mental health and substance use concerns. She earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology and her Masters of Arts in Counseling from Oakland University.  She is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), a member of the Psi Chi: National Honor Society in Psychology, a member of Chi Sigma Iota: National Counseling Honors Society, a member of ACA: American Counseling Association, NAADAC: National Association for Addiction Professionals and has her CAADC: Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Certification.  She has unique life experiences including being a young cancer survivor, being married for over 20 years in an interracial marriage, being a teacher for eight years and the mother of two teenagers.  Her approach to therapy is uniquely eclectic in nature with roots in Cognitive Behavioral, Humanistic and Solution Focused Brief Therapy, designed to be customizable towards clients ranging in ages from 5 and up.  Carissa specializes in individual, family, marriage therapy for mental health, substance use or dual diagnosed clients as well as children and adolescent therapy using clinically tested and evidence based interventions designed to empower couples and individuals to overcome obstacles and improve their quality of life
